The Almas made a stop in Lincoln, Nebraska on the “Lifeline” tour at the Bourbon Theatre. I was not familiar with them, but I saw they had a couple strong local opening acts, and they are from Wisconsin. There is something about a good mid-western rock and roll band that gets my attention. Being from the mid-west myself, I know it’s tough for bands to sometimes get the attention and recognition they deserve. So I decided to go and check them out. I was not disappointed. They are a great guitar driven band with some catchy tunes and lots of energy. And one thing that also stood out to me is that they also have a lot of fun while on stage. This was not their first stop in Lincoln, as lead singer Crystal Teigland announced. She said that Lincoln was a special place for the band from the positive responses that they had from previous visits.
The Almas is made up of vocalist Crystal Teigland, lead guitarist Frank Slifka, rhythm guitarist Josh Sukowski, and the new guy- drummer Vinnie Parma. Vinnie is a pretty dynamic drummer with lots of theatrics with his playing…I don’t say this much about drummers, but he is fun to watch! If you noticed in the band breakdown, there is no bass player. Which I found curious. I asked vocalist Crystal about that, and she explained that they had a bass player…and are currently looking for one. The previous one quit to enjoy the non-touring life and be able to be home more. The current touring edition of the band is making due with what they have until a replacement can be found. Truth be told, they sounded pretty good as they were. I definitely don’t think it is going to slow them down in the meantime.
The Almas are currently on a sting of dates that will take them all the way to Pennsylvania and they will embark on a tour in the UK. I’d say if you can catch them out on the road, you should definitely make an effort to catch them. If you can’t see them live, check out their new single “Lifeline” on Spotify or wherever you get your music. A song dedicated to those that struggle with depression, it has a great message tied to it.
